UEFA Conference League; Celtic Implications

Celtic face elimination from the Uefa Conference League on Thursday evening unless they find a way to counteract Bodo/Glimt and their gameplan after humbling the Hoops at Celtic Park.

Europe should always be the benchmark for Celtic on how well we are doing as a club and team. This season, it’s taken a back seat to the rebuild and the Hoops looking to get a firm footing back in the SPFL.

Despite grabbing nine points from their Europa League group with a team still very much in its infancy, Celtic were knocked out of the competition. There was hope the Conference league would provide the Hoops with a late run in Europe for the first time in years. After flying high since the beginning of 2022, Bodo brought us back down to earth.

Celtic have a big task ahead on an artificial surface in arctic conditions. If they can somehow pull it off, great. If we go out of the competition, we must not let it hijack our domestic run.

Thankfully, we came up big late on against Dundee to grab the win and go three points clear at the top of the league.

Ange’s rebuild isn’t halfway done yet, we must remember that.

Celtic losing is never a positive thing, if we do go out tonight there will be little positivity in the immediate aftermath. Hibernian await on Sunday afternoon – a game that could either help consolidate our position top of the league or give our rivals a way back in.

There’s more to come from this side and the manager, regardless of the result in Norway. But the domestic fight is much more important – this season.
