UEFA declared that leagues can call their season early if there’s no chance of getting games played by August.
The European organisation’s stance softened when they saw the challenges facing leagues around Europe – not all countries are affected the same or handling the crisis as diligently as others.
It’s simply impossible for some leagues to even think of getting football back on the menu.
That’s why over the coming days the Belgian and Dutch League will call an end to their season.
It’s an incredibly hard decision but these times cal for difficult decisions to be made so clubs and leagues are in the best possible position for when football can return.
Key meetings today:
Belgian Pro League general meeting may rubber-stamp the season is cancelled. Decisions over final classification, in particular the cup final and any promotion/relegation, may by delayed to May 10.
Dutch FA meeting to confirm its season is officially over.

What does this mean for Scottish football:
They already have the plan in place to call the league as it stands and will wait for the rubber stamp from UEFA before proceeding.
Even at that, the SPFL should wait until football is completely off the table before making this decision.
The Government night play a big part in when the league is called. The Dutch government told their FA that no football of any kind can be played before September – leaving them with little choice.
