Reports down south put two former Celts at the centre of a potentially surprising transfer.
Brendan Rodgers is reportedly keen on Kieran Tierney and reuniting with the defender at Leicester.
Kieran moved to Arsenal last summer, months after Brendan Rodgers had left for Leicester. The left-back has had a torrid time with injuries and his Arsenal career hasn’t got going yet.
The manager who brought Tierney to the Emirates is no longer at the club and it’s now Mikel Arteta calling the shots.
Right now it appears like it’s just paper talk but former Arsenal man Ray Parlour believes the club would be silly to let Kieran go. Although it’s likely Brendan Rodgers and Leicester would be able to offer Kieran Champions League football next term.
Speaking to SunSport, Parlour said:
“His career at Arsenal hasn’t really got started.
“He got injured against West Ham [in December], but he is a fantastic player.
“He has great energy, up and down the pitch – which is what you need on that left hand side – and right hand side in this modern day.
“You need to be like wingers, like Trent Alexander Arnold or Robertson at Liverpool.
“You have to get up and support, get crosses in the box but also defend. He is just having a nightmare with injuries at the moment.
“But Leicester, you know what its like, its a puzzle.
“If one of their players goes to Chelsea for big money, suddenly they have got a pot of money and they might test the water.
“Because obviously Brendan Rodgers knows him very well from Celtic.
“It will have to be a big fee. I can’t see £25m. Why would you buy him then? Because they bought him for that kind of money.
“I don’t know what kind of state the financial side of things is at Arsenal, what is happening with Aubameyang.
“But Edu [sporting director] has got a really important job behind the scenes, he is saying we need four players in but we might need to sell four players. Whether Tierney is one of those players …. but I would be amazed.
“Once he is fit again you have to have a look at him. They have Kolasinac for that side as well.”
Kieran is a determined lad and he’ll want to show what he can do at Arsenal but the lure of Champions League football alongside his former manager might be enough to tip the balance if there’s a decision to be made.
Celtic have a sell-on fee with Arsenal and could find themselves with a little bit of extra cash if the player was to move on this summer.
