Celtic midfielder Arne Engels is being monitored by Atalanta, according to a report from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla.
The Serie A giants, whom the Hoops drew 0-0 with in the UEFA Champions League a few months ago, are said to ‘appreciate’ the Belgian and will ‘continue to follow him’, but their interest isn’t expected to go beyond that, for the time being.

Engels only joined Celtic in the summer. At £11m, he came in as a club record signing, and barring a few sub-par performances here and there, which every young player will have, Engels has, on the whole, impressed.
The 21-year-old has registered 14 goal contributions in 26 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions in 2024/25 so far and has the joint-second most assists in the UEFA Champions League up to this point in the competition’s initial stage.
Atalanta’s interest doesn’t come as much of a surprise, although Celtic hold all the cards, with Engels contracted in Glasgow’s east end until at least 2028.
If a potential sale was ever considered, too, the club would want significantly more than the £11m they shelled out on the youngster in the summer, and Pedulla backs that up in his report, stating that Celtic’s current valuation sits between £18-19m.
Atalanta will continue to monitor the ex-Augsburg man throughout the season, but Brendan Rodgers will want to keep hold of a player he was desperate to bring to Scotland only a few months ago.
