Over this week Scottish Football fans grew hopeful of returning to the grounds after the winter break.

The stoppage was brought forward to give spectators the best possible chance to watch their team with a capacity over the 500 that came into force on boxing day.

After the light appearing at the end of the tunnel, it looks as if football could be set for a longer period without fans.

The JRG told clubs to prepare for full capacity games from the 17th of January and were awaiting the green light from the first minister, this was to be announced over the weekend but clubs and fans find themselves waiting to hear Ms Sturgeon’s on Tuesday when she is expected to give further clarity. However, fans are preparing for the worst with Jason Leitch’s comments not sounding reassuring.

“I think the protections reduce the size of the wave and they potentially also elongate the wave to allow you to get more people vaccinated, allow you to spread the hospitalisations and intensive care cases out over a longer period.

“That’s got to be good. Now that’s not always good if you own a pub or if you own a nursery and people are having to self-isolate.

“It’s a real balance in there between the number of cases and the number of people off work.

“We’ve tried to make some adjustments in our advice to allow people to do that.

“But I still think it is the right thing to do to try and reduce that case rate, even if it’s not as severe a disease.” [Daily Record]

He told listeners that reducing the chance of spread is the Governments priority, however, the SPFL and SFA argue that football is a safe environment and have evidence to further prove this. It’s now a waiting game for those eager to get back inside the stadiums.
