As Celtic fans prepare for the club’s upcoming match in Edinburgh on Sunday, ScotRail has warned supporters to plan ahead to ensure a smooth journey for those heading to the capital. With multiple events taking place across Scotland, including the final weekend of the Edinburgh Festivals, train services are expected to be busier than usual.
For fans travelling to Edinburgh, ScotRail has warned that Sunday’s timetable will be significantly reduced. This reduction in services, combined with the expected high demand due to the Edinburgh Festivals and the end of the Scottish school summer holidays, means fans should plan their journeys with extra care.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail’s Customer Operations Director, highlighted the challenges facing the rail network this weekend: “This is another busy weekend for travel across Scotland’s Railway, and we are doing everything we can to help customers get to the football match and the events in Edinburgh.” he told Glasgow World.

The Edinburgh Festivals, which include the International Festival, the Fringe, and various other events like Fringe by the Sea, are drawing large crowds to the city. As a result, travel to and from Edinburgh will be particularly busy, and fans are encouraged to check the ScotRail app or website for the latest updates on train schedules. This information will be updated by Friday, 9 August.
For Celtic supporters, the reduced timetable on Sunday means it’s crucial to plan ahead. Checking the latest travel information and allowing extra time for the journey will help avoid any last-minute stress.
Celtic take on Hibs in the second game of the SPFL campaign. The Hoops got off to a great start winning 4-0 against Kilmarnock while Hibs were soundly beaten by St Mirren in Paisley.
As always, fans are advised to make their way back to the station promptly after the match to ensure they can secure a spot on the return journey.
