Transformative Champions League Money

Celtic effectively need three points from their next three games to be crowned champions of Scotland due to their superior goal difference.

It means the bhoys are on the cusp of not only winning the SPFL title but also Champions League qualification.

With that brings competition money, TV revenue, gate receipts and bigger and better advertisement opportunities.

The Swiss Ramble has attempted to give Celtic fans a peek into what we can expect in financial terms.

The finances expert have Celtic sitting at around £40m for their Champions League adventure next season. Everything estimated though because there are so many variables at play.

If you win a game in the group stage you are awarded €2.8m and a draw will grab you €930k.

When it coms to TV, Celtic are part of the pool for the whole of the United Kingdom i.e Premier League clubs. In past times Celtic have qualified they have received 10% of the overall TV revenue for their pool, Swiss Ramble has Celtic sitting at around €6.8m working off the assumption we receive that 10%.

Celtic and Adidas will no doubt have a clause in their sponsorship deal that sees them land more cash if they’re part of the Champions League, generating more funds.

Three home games with a sell out gate will contribute massively too, match-day revenue as well.

One thing that will go up for Celtic is the player related bonuses attached to Champions League football. There are a few players who will see their wages/bonuses rise as a result of qualification.

Overall, Celtic are about to land a cash windfall which means they don’t have to sell any of their players this summer and they have an entire pre-season to get up to speed before playing in Europe. In recent years, the Hoops have started their campaigns in July and fell far short of the level needed to qualify. It’s time to invest and see what we can do in Europe’s premier competition.
