Prominent sports journalist Graham Spiers expressed high praise for Brendan Rodgers after Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Rangers.

Speaking on his podcast Press Box alongside Stephen McGowan, a journalist known for his deep insights into Celtic, the duo discussed the game and Rodgers’ management skills.
Contrary to Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s assertion that little separates the two teams, Spiers and McGowan highlighted a significant quality gulf. During their podcast, Spiers praised Rodgers, stating, “I happen to think he is a terrific manager. He’s probably going to land a league and cup double and it would mean he will win 9 out of 10 Celtic trophies that he’s gone for.”
The discussion also turned to the specifics of the match, where Celtic’s superiority was evident. Spiers continued, “There was one thing about Saturday’s game that I found glaring which was the sheer superiority of Celtic’s players. I mean in skill, ball retention, stitching the play together, game intelligence.”
McGowan acknowledged Rangers’ challenges, including injuries, but maintained that a fully fit Celtic team exhibited undeniable superiority. “Yeah, there’s a quality gulf between Celtic and Rangers. You have to accept Rangers have had some injuries as well, but yeah. I think when Celtic are fit and firing, one to eleven, they’re simply a better team,” he concluded.
It’s just the truth. Celtic have shown time and time this season that they are Scotland’s premier team. Out of four derbies this season, Rangers have collected just the one point, with Celtic winning three games and drawing away at Ibrox. Clement can say what he wants, but the proof is in the pudding.
