Tony Docherty Ready to Give Celtic Title Shock

As the Scottish Premiership winds down, the stakes could hardly be higher for both Celtic and Dundee. This Sunday’s 3 pm kickoff at Dens Park presents a pivotal moment in the season.

Speaking to The Courier, Dundee manager Tony Docherty expressed both respect for the opposition and confidence in his team. “Sunday will be difficult as Celtic are going for a title as we all know, but we have huge motivation as well,” Docherty stated. His team’s sights are set not just on disrupting Celtic’s title ambitions but on securing a European spot, adding a layer of intensity to the impending clash.

Celtic, led by manager Brendan Rodgers, have demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity, traits that were on full display in their recent Scottish Cup victory against Aberdeen. Docherty acknowledged the quality of the Celtic squad, noting, “Celtic were pushed all the way by Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup but they showed the character and mindset to get the job done. That is the mark of a good team.” He also lauded Rodgers as a “top manager,” under whose guidance Celtic has flourished.

Despite acknowledging the challenge posed by Celtic, Docherty remains optimistic, buoyed by Dundee’s performance in the league, which saw them secure a spot in the top six. “We will have to be at our best but we also go in confident after making the top six and getting a good result against Rangers last time out,” he explained.

The last encounter between the two teams was a stark affair, with Celtic trouncing Dundee 7-1. However, the Dundee side that will take to the field on Sunday is significantly bolstered by recent successes and the advantage of home turf, where they are expected to present a formidable challenge.

Celtic, aware of the slim margin in the title race, will be equally determined to avoid any slips. The match promises to be a tense encounter. Fans can watch the game live on Sky Sports,
