Tomoki Iwata has finalised a move away from Celtic, joining English League One side Birmingham City on a three-year contract.

This transfer marks a significant shift for the 27-year-old midfielder, who had been conspicuously absent from Celtic’s matchday squads in recent games.

Birmingham City, competing in England’s third tier, will likely benefit greatly from Iwata’s experience and capabilities
While he has been a dependable player for Celtic, the competition for midfield spots at the club meant that his playing time was becoming increasingly limited. However, he seemed happy with his squad role, and was a solid player when called upon. It’s surprising, and frustrating, to see him go.
Celtic haven’t brought in a replacement for the midfielder. There isn’t a lot of Callum McGregor behind Callum McGregor, with Lawal and Iwata making permanent exits, while Kwon has headed out to Hibs on loan.
Hopefully, this doesn’t come back to bite the club.
