Daily Mail journalist Stephen McGowan revealed earlier in the week that there is a ‘very strong possibility’ that Celtic bring in Tiago Araujo in January. The opening of the window is not long away and ahead of it, CeltsAreHere profiles the Hoops’ potential new left-back.
Arujo started his career in the Benfica academy as a young teen, and, certainly, any player who comes through the Portuguese giants’ youth system possesses quality. In 2021, though, having made just one appearance for the first team, he joined Arouca on loan at 20.
After a year there, the left-back went on to leave Benfica temporarily. In the summer of 2022, Araujo signed for Estoril, where he plays now.

For the side, the 22-year-old has made 49 appearances. The majority of them have come at left-back, although Araujo has been utilised at left-wing previously.
At six feet tall, he is much more of a physical presence at left-back compared to Greg Taylor or Alexandro Bernabei. Araujo also likes to get forward with his pace and athleticism coming to the fore, but he can equally defend soundly.
Some of the question marks of his game lie in his passing, however. This can be improved over time.
At Estoril, the former Portugal under-21 internationalist has a year and a half left on his contract. A move in January could cost the club some money, however they would be adding quality and a different option to the squad that is much needed.
