Three Things We Learned As Celtic Stutter Against Motherwell

Celtic put in a sub-par performance upon their return to action from the international break on Saturday afternoon. A 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell was a major disappointment.

David Turnbull opened the scoring before Jon Obika levelled things up moments later. Here are three things we learned from the match.

Long Awaited Debut Made

Summer signing Marco Tilio made his long-awaited Celtic debut this afternoon. It was a pleasing sight to see for many supporters.

The Aussie came on in stoppage time, and did look bright. He is not in the squad for Europe so cannot play against Lazio midweek, but his return to fitness is a timely boost for Brendan Rodgers.

Lacklustre In Attack

Despite dominating the ball, Celtic flattered to deceive in attack this afternoon. There didn’t seem to be much intensity to their play.

Few notable chances were created by the Hoops with their best opportunities coming from the spot.

Injury And Squad Issues Made Clear

For the second time this season, Rodgers introduced David Turnbull and Mikey Johnston at the same juncture. Granted the pair did play a part in the Hoops’ sole goal, however one cannot deny players of a better quality should be playing instead of them.

If not for injuries, this would be the case. The champions are unfortunate in that regard, however on the whole, many are of the opinion if the squad was of a higher standard, the outcome in matches like today’s could be different.

Things only get harder from here on in for the Celts. A trip to Lazio awaits on Tuesday and if they want to stay alive in Europe, a win must be secured by the Bhoys.
