Three First Team Celtic Stars Entering Final Year of Their Parkhead Deals

Although some of the attention in the media have already looked at Celtic’s contract situation, the Hoops don’t need to panic as deals within the squad don’t run out until next summer.

Ange Postecoglou has reiterated on many an occasion that he wants the club to continually evolve and progress to be better. Within that conversation has to be players whose deals are set to expire next summer which includes Joe Hart, Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull.

Two of those players are currently first team starters and although Turnbull isn’t always guaranteed to play, he has still made 29 appearances for the league leaders this season in all competitions [Transfermarkt].

Turnbull was the player that the club paid the most money for back in the summer of 2020 as he joined from Motherwell for a fee believed to be in the region of £3 million. He was one of the shining lights during the Hoops disastrous Covid season and featured regularly under Postecoglou until he suffered a hamstring problem in the final of the League Cup.

At 23-year-olds, he will still continue to improve under the manager but may want more gametime although it would be daft for the club to just let his contract expire as he will gather interest from other sides and can be considered as an asset.

Joe Hart could arguably be said to be Postecoglou’s best signing considering he joined the club for £1 million at a time when a goalkeeper and experience was desperately needed. He’s had a few moments which he won’t be best pleased about but his contribution over the past 18 months has been terrific [Read more here].

His presence in the dressing room is key, and although Postecoglou may be looking for a keeper who is better placed to fit his system, if the former England international is happy to stay at Parkhead he is well worth keeping as none of the reserve keepers are anywhere near his standard.

Finally, Aaron Mooy has been a total revelation and a top performer this season for Celtic. Many had expected the Australian international to play more as a defensive midfielder but he has fitted in as a great attacking threat which was again emphasised on Sunday as he set up three goals.

He is well used to life in Glasgow as his wife is Scottish and it would be no surprise if he finished his career with Celtic. Mooy is working under a coach that he knows well and still has plenty left in the tank and adds something to the squad.
