We reported yesterday former Celtic player and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas urged the club to go re-sign Southampton outcast Fraser Forster to settle the number one jersey debate once and for all.
The prevailing thought being Bain may not be up to the task and Gordon, while he could play this season, is not a long term solution.
Neil Lennon must decide himself who he can trust in goals for the club but it would appear Charlie Nicholas has started a trend and another two former Celts have urged the club to go for the £70kpw goalkeeper. (Wages by Sportac)
Now, Robert Douglas, a former Celtic goalkeeper believes Forster is the ‘obvious choice’.
“I don’t think Neil will be looking in Scotland for a new goalie. He’ll be looking down south.” Rab told the Dundee Courier.
“Fraser Forster is the obvious one.
“He was brilliant in his first spell at Celtic Park and went for big money but I don’t think he’s even Southampton’s number two these days.”
To round it off, Chris Sutton has also called on his old pal Neil Lennon to go back down south and get Fraser. The Englishman is very candid in his RecordSport column about Scott Bain.
“Scott Bain’s goalkeeping for the third goal proved what I’ve been saying for ages,” Sutton wrote. “Celtic need a better keeper and Fraser Forster is available. The sight of Bain kicking a free-kick away from 30 yards in the first half helped to unsettle everyone.”
Fraser is third choice at Southampton and hasn’t been in the first team in over a year. The player is one of Southampton’s highest earners at £70kpw. Could a deal be done to bring the player back – his deal would be significantly lower at Celtic if he did return.
