‘This One Hurts’ Arne Engels Breaks Silence on Bayern Pain

Two days on from Celtic’s agonising Champions League exit, Arne Engels has taken to social media to express his heartbreak over the last-minute blow against Bayern Munich.

The Belgian midfielder, who has been a big part of Celtic’s Champions League success this season, posted:

“This one hurts. Thank you for standing by us no matter what. 💚”

Engels’ message captures the emotions of the entire Celtic support, who watched their side come within seconds of forcing extra time at the Allianz Arena, only to be cruelly denied by a stoppage-time equaliser.

A Gut-Wrenching Exit

Celtic’s 1-1 draw on the night wasn’t enough to overturn the 3-2 aggregate defeat, but the performance in Germany earned them widespread praise. The Hoops had led through Nicolas Kuhn’s goal, and as the clock ticked down, it looked like they would take Bayern the distance.

However, a last-gasp strike from the Bundesliga champions left Engels and his teammates floored, as they saw their European dream slip away.

Engels’ Growing Influence

Despite the disappointment, Engels has been a key figure in Celtic’s Champions League campaign, showcasing his talent and composure on the biggest stage. He was at the heart of Celtic’s midfield battle against Bayern, helping to stifle the German side and drive the team forward when opportunities arose.

His post on social media highlights not only his pain as a player but also his connection with the supporters, acknowledging the backing the team received both in Munich and from those watching back home.

Turning Pain into Progress

For Engels and Celtic, the challenge now is to channel this disappointment positively. With the Scottish Premiership title race in sight and a potential treble on the table, Arne could yet be part of more Celtic history.
