‘This Is Trouble for Celtic’ – Hoops Warned Over Rangers Resurgence

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has sent a strong warning to Celtic, insisting that Russell Martin’s appointment at Ibrox could spark a shift in Scottish football’s power balance — and that the Parkhead side need to be on their toes this summer.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, MacAnthony made it clear he holds Celtic close to his heart, but believes Rangers’ decision to go with the former Swansea boss is one that could bear fruit sooner than many expect.

“I’m a Celtic fan but at the end of the day this is trouble for Celtic,” MacAnthony admitted. “With the money that is going to go in there at Rangers and now got this manager. This is going to be interesting.”

Celtic fans might be quick to dismiss Martin, but MacAnthony’s view is that the new Ibrox boss brings with him both the right mentality and a strong backroom setup.

“I am a big Russ fan. And by the way Matty Gill and the people behind him and work with him. He’s got a great set up around him. He believes in himself, there is nothing wrong with that.”

Martin’s commitment to a high-tempo, possession-based style will bring a different dimension to the Glasgow rivalry, and MacAnthony clearly sees a long-term threat.

“Love Russ. Another Posh gem that has gone on to do well. Love him, his bravery and courage… He is a guy that will learn and evolve. He won’t change his principles and style but he will definitely evolve.”

For Celtic, this summer shapes up as a pivotal one. Brendan Rodgers will know the noise across the city needs to be matched by action — in recruitment, preparation, and mentality. But there’s no panic needed at Lennoxtown. Celtic remain a strong, experienced side who, with the right focus, will enter next season ready to defend their crown.

MacAnthony even hinted that Martin’s arrival might serve as a much-needed jolt for the Hoops.

“I think this could get Brendan on his toes. It might be what Celtic need. I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out.”

Celtic fans should be aware of the challenge, but there’s no reason to be fearful. If the club sharpens up during the off-season and backs Rodgers properly, they remain well-placed to keep control of the title race. Let Rangers talk up their new man — the real answers will come on the pitch.
