Steven Thompson hasn’t been known for making outlandish comments and we think he might regret the wording of his critique of Aberdeen at the weekend when he claimed the Dons lay down to Celtic in a first half blitz.

Celtic were all guns blazing from kick off and immediately put Aberdeen on the back foot. The home side didn’t get a chance to settle into the game and the mood Celtic were in, it just wasn’t going to happen.

Instead of people picking apart the Aberdeen performance – they should try and focus on the Celtic display which was outstanding at points.

Neil Lennon sent his team out knowing their last two away games were a slog and they were just off an energy zapping night against Lazio in Paradise. However, the team responded in spectacular fashion and the game was done in the first 45 minutes. Nobody lay down and maybe some people should remember the Dons result at Ibrox a month back if they think their performance was a result of lying down.

“They were awful in that first-half… they were pathetic.” Thompson told Sportsound as cited by SunSport.

“You can understand why the supporters are really frustrated and angry with that performance because they just lay down to Celtic.”
