‘There’s Something Wrong’: Ex-Celtic Captain Makes Bold Call on Scottish Referees

Former Celtic captain Tom Boyd has not held back in his belief Celtic are being offered very little protection from referees in Scotland.

The spotlight is well and truly back on the men in black after they released their own squirrels trying to deflect from failings elsewhere. Calling a summit after criticism but refusing to publicly acknowledge they need to do better or learn from some horrible mistakes.

Boyd believes Celtic players have bee on the receiving end of some brutal challenges which have gone unpunished and cited Edouard being stretchered off in the last game against St Johnstone where a very high boot caught the Frenchman inside the St Johnstone penalty area; no foul or card was given.

Speaking to RecordSport, the man who captained Celtic to the famous title win in 1998 said:“When I watch games, Celtic’s in particular, they are not offering protection of Celtic players.

“I’ve seen two waist-high challenges on Edouard this season and neither was deemed to be a foul. That’s not acceptable. There is something way wrong with the standard of officiating just now.

“It needs to be addressed, and the only solution is to bring in the kind of neutral referees who came in a few years ago and did well.”

Celtic could have had at least two penalties at the weekend which weren’t given, while other teams just had to be sneezed on near the penalty box to get one.

There’s no consistency, and the standard is getting worse, is it time for a change?
