Stephen McGowan has always been a reliable source when it comes to information about Celtic’s comings and goings.
The MailSport chief regularly gets the scoops before they happen and is well versed in how the club operates.
Speaking this week on Graham Speirs’s Patreon Podcast ‘Press Box‘, the journalist spoke about Celtic’s transfer window so far and while it’s been fairly low-key to this point, perceptions could change pretty quickly before the window closes.
“Well, with regards to transfers, the window is not closed yet. Remember, we’re sitting here with 20 days to go, and I think they’ll probably make three or four more signings without having any great in-depth knowledge of the situation.”
“I believe they’re certainly going to be looking for a left back and a goalkeeper, which is the one that fans are really craving for.”

“There will likely be a left-sided attacker to try and fill the gap left by Jota.”
“It will be interesting to see if Reo Hatate is still there at the end of the window. They might also try to bring in another midfielder.”
“There’s been a bit of chat with one or two boys from Manchester City. However, there’s a lot of demand for them, so perceptions could change pretty quickly. [On Celtic’s transfer window]”
“When Brendan Rogers comes in, fans might just accept the English Premier League ethos, but I think he himself has realised that’s not very pragmatic or realistic.”
“Celtic have to abide by a financial model which is pretty much dictated by external factors.”
McGowan inserts some interesting comments as Celtic head towards the end of the month. The bhoys won a treble last season, and if Lagerbielke is signed next week like we expect, he will be Celtic’s SIXTH summer signing.
Celtic won a treble last season and weren’t expected to do too much business this summer. Ange leaving changed things, and as Brendan Rodgers looks to shape this team into his own image, there will be more on the way.
A goalkeeper is what fans want; they at least want to see a succession plan for Joe Hart come into play.
As for Reo Hatate, a lot has been made of the Japanese midfielder being benched on Saturday for the opener against Ross County. He could come back into the starting XI on Sunday against Aberdeen, but while the window is still open, there will be a certain amount of speculation.
