The news came over the weekend Nicky Hammond was scouting Declan Gallagher at the St Mirren vs Motherwell game in Paisley got us to thinking about what the player could bring to the squad.
The argument in not signing the player is he wouldn’t improve our current side.
We put Declan side by side in the stats with Shane Duffy who has struggled majorly since coming to Celtic and the results were underwhelming.

Yes, stats can only tell you so much and Declan was instrumental in Scotland making the Euros but he has the potential same deficiencies as Shane.
Neither is blessed with pace and suit teams who play much deeper than Celtic do in their domestic games.
While we need that dominant centre-back presence, it shouldn’t be at the detriment of the overall look of the side.
Declan would be another body to come in and put in a shift but he would not be a game changer. If he could be Shane Duffy without the mistakes then some Celtic fans would be happy with that but we should be aiming higher.
