The row rages on about what’s going to happen to leagues across Europe which have currently been put on hold due to Covid-19.
It’s NOBODIES preference to leave the games unplayed and have the season announced as over.
However, in the unprecedented times we’re left with very few options and with so much uncertainty and clubs being starved of money, something might just have to be done, swiftly.
With so many looking for answers, RecordSport stumbled across a precedent set by UEFA in the 98/99 season:
The paper writes:
In 1999, the First League of Yugoslavia was halted after 24 games into a 34-game season because of NATO bombing of the country.
Partizan Belgrade were just two points clear of second placed Obilic, but when football was given the all-clear to resume later that year, UEFA and the Yugoslavian Football authorities declared Partizan the 1998/999 winners – their 16th domestic title.
This clearly shows UEFA intervening in difficult and unprecedented times. The thought of all seasons being labeled as null and void is unthinkable for so many reasons.
The competition money would not be forthcoming if nobody was rewarded for their efforts this season. Supporters up and down the country would be looking at refunds and their legal rights paying for a product which didn’t matter a jot.
We know the title was staying in Paradise before the shut down, and so do Rangers* fans. However, they get to weaponise a global pandemic and play dumb to the reality of their situation. They failed again and for some reason they’re delighted a pandemic has gave them the voice to greet about that instead of their club’s woeful 2020 form.
Celtic are thirteen points clear with 8 games to play, having only dropped 10 points in the previous 30 games we all know the outcome.
There’s so much more important going on away from sport, but there are people who are paid a lot of money to make these big decisions for the good of our game going forward.
We trust they’ll make the right one.
