“The Set-Up Left By Brendan Rodgers Is Crumbling” – Sutton’s Seven Changes For The Summer

Never one to mince his words, Chris Sutton has used his Record Sport Column this morning to highlight two facts that probably do not need that much highlighting to Celtic fans.

The first issue is our headline. Sutton suggests Rodgers jumped ship known full well a bit of a re-build was going to have to happen in the summer. His second call, Celtic need to sign seven players in the summer. Which is not that far fetched at all.

“As I see it, this summer they will need a new goalkeeper, two new centre-backs, a right-back, a left-back, a winger and possibly even a striker.”

Nobody can argue about the Celtic defence. There will be a massive hole left to fill assuming that, Boyata, Benkovic, Toljan and Lustig all leave as planned. While the squad has looked stretched this season it has to be taken into account the unmerciful amount of injuries Celtic have had to endure at times.

Sutton was critical of the number of loan signings Rodgers left, but, it might be loan signings that can save Celtic needing to splash the cash in the summer. Benkovic, Weah and Burke have all made a massive contribution since joining Celtic. There is no reason why the players or club would not want to extend their loans for next season.
