If the reports from FootballScotland this week are true with regards to what Mikael Lustig was looking for in a new Celtic contract then it’s very clear why the club didn’t entertain the deal.
Lustig and his family waved goodbye to Celtic this week with the supporters wishing him well and paying tribute to the defender’s Celtic career. Lustig has made a name for himself at Celtic and he won’t soon be forgotten.
People were split over whether he should get a new contract or not, however, RecordSport revealed the defender was looking for a new three-year deal from the club to solidify his future and have stability for his family. Celtic were apparently only willing to give the Swede a one-year extension.
If this is true then there can be little doubt that Celtic has made the right call and Mikael has made the correct call for himself with regards to his own career. Having signed a three-year deal with Gent it definitely gives more credence to the story.
It’s a shame it has ended without a proper send off for the defender. We will need to make sure of ten in a row so he comes back for a visit!
