The Parkhead Appointment ‘Too Much for Fans to Stomach’ – Chris Sutton

The Celtic manager’s position has attracted a plethora of potential candidates in recent days, with countless names being linked to the vacancy since Ange Postecoglou left on Tuesday morning.

However, former Celtic striker and current pundit Chris Sutton believes Brendan Rodgers should be immediately ruled out of the running.

He also expressed doubts about Kennedy, who has served as Celtic’s assistant manager and is reportedly looking to join Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite reports that Celtic is trying to retain Kennedy, Sutton believes it’s unlikely the club would offer him the top job, especially given the speculation surrounding other potential candidates.

As for Rodgers, despite his proven managerial skills, his departure from Celtic over two and a half years ago left a sour taste for many fans, making his reappointment a potentially divisive move.

He wrote in the Daily Record:

“Two men I would be ruling out of running immediately are Brendan Rodgers and John Kennedy. Rodgers is just simply not an option, surely.

“Brendan was a brilliant Celtic manager, but the way he left was just too much for some fans to stomach and I sense it may create a difficult environment between stands and technical area if he were to come back. I might be wrong, but I can’t see it.

“Kennedy was another I considered, but I’m not sure that is the route Celtic will go down. He has done the job before, mind you. And he certainly knows every single detail about the cub because he’s worked there, successfully, for so long.”

The search for Celtic’s new manager is underway, with the club hoping to have a man in place for the start of pre-season.
