“The Only Thing I Didn’t Change…” – Celtic Flop Humorously Reflects on Parkhead Spell

Albian Ajeti has opened up on his struggles during his spell at Celtic, attributing a series of persistent injuries as a primary factor that hindered his performance and ultimately led to his departure.

Signed in 2020 from West Ham under then-manager Neil Lennon, Ajeti’s time at Celtic was marred by fitness issues which prevented him from making a significant impact. He just couldn’t catch a break at Celtic.

In an interview with BZ, the Swiss forward discussed the lengths he went to in an attempt to overcome his fitness challenges, including dietary changes, medical checks, and even changing his mattress in hopes of finding a solution.

“For one thing, I was probably too impatient and started playing again too soon. I then tried a lot of things, changed my diet, paid attention to my blood values and had my teeth checked.

“I really did everything I could to stay fit, I even changed my mattress because I thought that might be the reason.

“The only thing I didn’t change was my wife. But when you’re in a spiral of injuries, it’s not easy to get out of it.”

His move to Gaziantep followed by a quick transfer to FC Basel marks a continued effort to rejuvenate his career back in Switzerland.

It just didn’t work out for him at Celtic, and he’s still struggling to get back on track. He’s scored just six goals since he left Celtic last year, making a winter transfer while he was at it.
