The Nakamura Effect

Brendan Rodgers’ imminent return to Celtic is expected to have no negative impact on the club’s five Japanese players, according to Akihito Ido, the agent for Kyogo.

Ido, who spent 18 months in Glasgow as a permanent Celtic employee before returning to Japan in January, believes that the managerial change will not unsettle the Japanese players.

Ido suggests that the legacy of Shunsuke Nakamura, a legendary Japanese player who had a successful stint at Celtic, continues to inspire the current Japanese players at the club.

Nakamura’s successful career at Celtic, where he became a part of the club’s history and fabric, serves as a model for the current Japanese players.

Ido said: [MailSport]

“For all Japanese players at Celtic, the case of Shunsuke Nakamura makes them think deeply about things. Nakamura became a part of the history of Celtic. He became part of the club’s fabric.

“Currently, a lot of young players move after one year or two years. And, yes, maybe some will want to find happiness somewhere else. But, at the same time, I think they want to leave their names in the history of Celtic like Nakamura.”

Ido had initially only planned to stay in Scotland for four weeks, but after Kyogo asked him to live with him, he stayed for 18 months. But, he’s since returned to Japan to be with his family, leaving his post at Celtic in January.
