“The money’s there but that won’t happen” – Rodgers On The Reality Of Celtic’s Transfer Situation

We are now 26 days into the January transfer window and there has been little activity at Celtic. Nicolas Kuhn remains the sole arrival to date, whilst there have been four departures so far.

Manager Brendan Rodgers, along with the fans, would have hoped for more movement by this point. There is less than a week left in the window, and frustrations are growing.

Albeit it can be difficult to find the right player in January, however, the manager previously admitted his squad needed three, or potentially even four, additions of quality to improve it.

Supporters were expectant of a notable month regarding incomings, although that has in no way been the case to date and recently, their enthusiasm has been toned down another notch with Rodgers’ comments on the financial side of things.

Indeed, the double-treble-winning gaffer was asked if Celtic would shell out a fee in the region of fifteen to twenty million pounds for a player, such is being suggested they would have to for Liverpool’s keeper Caoihmin Kelleher: “No”, replied deftly (Glasgow Times).

“It’s very difficult. The money’s there but that won’t happen.

“If you’re bringing in a £20m player then you’re taking a £20m player’s wages. That doesn’t work here sadly. We’re not in that ballpark.”
