A divisive figure among the Celtic support, Mikey Johnston was heavily involved in the Hoops’ 4-0 thrashing of DC United last night.

The attacker came on at half-time and played up top. While he scored a simple tap-in and looked sharp, Johnston’s cameo was reflective of his Celtic career as a whole; after showing initial promise, he eventually disappointed.
Indeed, after the 25-year-old got his goal, he had the opportunity to get another, but he missed his penalty.
Then a few minutes later, after putting a woeful corner into the box, the Ireland internationalist shanked a cross into row z.
Finding consistency is the key for Johnston. He was terrific at West Brom last season once he got into his stride but at his boyhood club, it seems there is a stumbling block preventing him from unlocking his true potential.
A complete performance against DC would have gone a long way in putting him higher up in Brendan Rodgers’ thoughts, but Johnston couldn’t make the grade.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead for him in the season ahead.
