Arne Engels became the most expensive signing in Celtic history on transfer deadline day as he completed an £11m move from Augsburg.

The highly-rated midfielder comes in to replace Matt O’Riley, who left for English Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion at the beginning of the week.
The Dane’s departure wasn’t a surprise, but the time it took for Celtic to get the Engels deal over the line did raise a few eyebrows.
Along with Luke McCowan, the Belgian wasn’t announced until the final few hours of the summer transfer window.
He arrived at Celtic Park late on Friday night and when he stepped out on the hallowed turf for the first time, Engels noticed an intriguing dynamic.
“Everybody is really close to the pitch”, he said (Celtic FC on X).
“It will be really, really loud I think, [from] what I’ve heard of it, it will be really special.”
The 20-year-old will soon experience the famous Celtic Park atmosphere on derby days and European nights.
He could well be on the bench against Rangers today, but he will definitely be involved when Slovan Bratislava come to town in a few weeks.
There are high expectations for Engels in Glasgow given his price tag, and Celtic fans are eager to see him in action.
