Celtic’s Matt O’Riley is not short of transfer interest this summer. Several clubs have been reported to be interested in the midfielder who was sensational in 2023/24.
Last campaign, O’Riley featured in all but one of his side’s games across all competitions. He scored 19 goals and registered 18 assists for the Hoops as they did the double.
Southampton are the latest team to have been named as potential suitors for the Dane, but one side who have been continually linked with O’Riley is Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish giants had a bid rejected for the 23-year-old in January, but according to a report from Mundo Deportivo at the end of May, he remains on their agenda this summer.
The same was said for Feyenoord man Mats Wieffer, whom Atleti also had an offer knocked back for in the winter window.
Both players remain of interest to Diego Simeone, but Wieffer is now on his way to Brighton. Per Fabrizio Romano, the English Premier League side is signing the midfielder for 30 million euros. An agreement is in place and he will sign a five-year deal.
This transfer ends the possibility of Madrid going after Wieffer, meaning they could well turn their attention to O’Riley.
Celtic will be on alert, but after January, they have proven they will only accept top-dollar for their star man.
