The Eddie Howe Blame Game Begins

Celtic feel like they’ve been lead down the garden path by Eddie Howe.

There are certainly misplaced trust from the Celtic hierarchy who up until yesterday believe they had their man and were working off the idea it was all but done.

Desmond and Lawwell thought they had their man, Eddie said all the right things, there had been meetings and talks about budgets and players and then at the final moment, when the deal had to be done, he reneged citing his staff would not come with him

It’s an incredible climax to the long-running saga.

There’s fault on both sides here; Eddie for leading Celtic along and not even considering the job after some of his coaching staff decided not to go, quite frankly, if he wanted the Celtic job enough, he would have found a way.

The second part of the blame lies with Celtic and specifically Dermot Desmond for allowing Celtic to be strung along for so long. Yes, to land your top target you must make concessions but allowing the scope for Celtic to be publicly humiliated like this is utterly unacceptable.

The way Eddie has gone about things, in the end, has been unprofessional but so has Celtic’s pursuit of him. Losing out on Howe a month ago to go get another target might have been sore for the supporters to take but ultimately having a man in place before now would have been the best thing for the club.
