The current Celtic squad is blessed with a dearth of talent. Brendan Rodgers has a wealth of top players at his disposal and although that is extremely useful, the 50-year-old will be keen to improve some members of his team who are not yet at the level required to start week in, week out.
One of those players is Alexandro Bernabei. Brought in last summer from Lanus in Argentina, the young left back failed to find consistency in his first year in Glasgow. He was kept out of the team by Greg Taylor but he also didn’t have the best start to Scottish life off the park.

Bernabei did show lots of encouraging signs and under Brendan Rodgers, he could certainly kick on. Ange Postecoglou asked his full backs to invert and almost become an extra midfielder. This did not suit the 22-year-old although what Rodgers gets his wide defenders to do could.
Predominantly, the double treble winning Hoops gaffer likes his full backs to get high, wide and overlap. This will suit Bernabei down to a tee. The Argentinian’s key attributes, such as pace and dribbling, could undoubtedly come to the fore with Rodgers at the helm.
Already under the Irishman, Bernabei has shown what he can do. Against Gamba Osaka, the defender disclosed true grit and determination in order to net a late winner which epitomised his play style. This goal is only the beginning for Bernabei in the 2023/24 season – a campaign in which he could breakthrough and assert himself as a key member of the Celtic team.
