The £6.5m Jakob Breum Celtic Transfer Update

Celtic’s search for attacking reinforcements continues to frustrate fans, with the club now locked in a transfer stand-off over Danish winger Jakob Breum.

The Hoops are in urgent need of fresh wide options following the £16 million departure of Nicolas Kuhn to Como and the long-term injury to Jota, who isn’t expected back until February or March next year. Brendan Rodgers has limited options at his disposal, and neither Yang nor James Forrest have staked a convincing claim for a permanent starting role.

Breum, 20, has emerged as a serious target — a highly-rated, pacey winger who has caught the eye with Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie. However, efforts to bring him to Glasgow have so far proved unsuccessful.

Top journalist Stephen McGowan has revealed that Celtic have made three separate bids for Breum, with the most recent offer reportedly reaching £3 million. Go Ahead Eagles, however, are holding firm on their valuation, refusing to entertain anything less than £6.5 million for the Denmark U21 international.

The situation highlights a familiar issue for Celtic in recent transfer windows — identifying talent early but failing to secure the deal due to financial hesitation. Go Ahead Eagles are in no rush to sell and are confident they can command top dollar for one of their key assets.

With time ticking down in the summer transfer window, the pressure is mounting on Celtic’s board to step up and deliver. The wide areas are glaringly short on depth and quality, and if the club want to be competitive on multiple fronts this season, they cannot afford to lowball their way out of another deal.

Whether the club returns with a fresh offer closer to the Dutch side’s valuation remains to be seen — but at this stage, it’s clear Celtic will have to raise the bar if they want Breum in green and white.
