The £2m Celtic Transfer Clause Close to Being Triggered

Celtic are set to be quids in this summer, all going well in the English Championship.

It was late August 2021 when the Hoops agreed to sell Ryan Christie to Bournemouth for around £2.5m. The midfielder would’ve been worth a lot more but his deal ran out with Celtic at the end of 2021. Theoretically, Ryan could have sat at Celtic and signed a pre-contract for the English side.

Thankfully, he moved on and helped fund some more players coming in for Ange.

Celtic love a good transfer clause when it comes to players they sell and according to reports, Ryan has an interesting clause that could be about to pay dividends.

The 72 reported at the back end of last year that Ryan’s deal consisted of a promotion clause where Bournemouth would owe Celtic another £2m if they managed to reach the Premier League. It was first reported by respected journalist Alan Nixon in the Sun on Sunday print edition, (03.10.21, pg. 61).

Fulham took the Championship title on Monday evening but as the Championship draws to a close, Bournemouth are sitting in second, 4 points ahead of third with two games in hand.

It’s not done yet, but barring a late collapse by Ryan Christie’s new side, they will be playing Premier League football next season as will Ryan.

Behind the scenes at Parkhead, away from what the first team, doing, plans are being made for the summer. To have another £2m in the pot towards the next stage of Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side would be great news. We then have the money coming in from the Australia tour, and if we do manage to win the Scottish Premiership, a Champions League bounty awaits.

Fingers crossed.
