Benjamin Nygren lit up Celtic Park with a standout display against Livingston, netting twice and earning high praise from Brendan Rodgers following the 3-0 win.
After a dominant but goalless first half, it was Nygren who made the difference, reacting sharply to a spilled save to open the scoring before crashing home a second from close range after another Livingston defensive lapse.
The summer signing showed instinct, hunger and a clinical edge Celtic have lacked in recent weeks.
Nygren’s impact is already being felt, with three goals in three league games and a growing influence in the final third. He drifted into pockets, linked well with Yang and Inamura, and looked a constant menace down the right. His all-round contribution was as brilliant as the finishes themselves.
Rodgers, speaking after the match, singled out the 24-year-old for his performance and gave insight into what convinced Celtic to bring him in during the summer window.
He said: (BBC Sport), “I thought Benji was the standout player, and that’s why we brought him to the club.
“We know he wants to score goals, he can score goals.
“His first one, he anticipates really well.
“The second one’s a brilliant finish, but he’s right up for it.”
Rodgers’ comments show just how important Nygren could be for Celtic’s attacking options this season, especially with key players still missing.
While he’s not a direct replacement for Adam Idah, who’s more of a traditional striker, Nygren’s form in midfield and out wide gives Brendan Rodgers another in-form option in the final third ahead of the trip to Kazakhstan.
The Swede’s confidence is growing with every appearance. His movement, timing and sharp finishing are already adding something different to Celtic’s wide and creative play, and it’s clear he’s quickly settling into life at the Hoops.

It wasn’t just about the goals. Nygren’s pressing, link-up play and knack for finding space helped Celtic turn the screw in the second half. Livingston couldn’t cope once the tempo lifted and the midfield started moving the ball quicker.
It’s been an ideal start for the summer signing. A first home brace, a man of the match performance and strong backing from Rodfers, Benjamin Nygren looks ready to play a big part this season.
