Bologna striker Sydney van Hooijdonk is reportedly close to joining Norwich City, following Celtic links throughout the summer and winter transfer windows.
According to Tutto Bologna, the 23-year-old and his representatives had been waiting for Celtic to make a concrete offer, considering that joining the Scottish side was seen as the ‘real target’ for his family.
Despite the initial contact with the player’s representatives from Celtic, as understood by CeltsAreHere, the club did not follow through with a more assertive approach to secure the Dutch player.
This hesitation has led to van Hooijdonk and his camp deciding to opt for the English Championship side, Norwich City.
The situation highlights a missed opportunity for Celtic, managed by Brendan Rodgers, to bolster their attacking options with van Hooijdonk. The striker’s willingness to join Celtic, coupled with the initial contact made by the club, suggests that a more proactive approach might have swayed the transfer in their favour.
Instead, Celtic are looking to sign Adam Idah, who Norwich City are looking to move on to bring van Hooijdonk in for.
