Celtic’s quest to bolster their striking options this summer has hit a roadblock.
The Glasgow-based club has been actively searching for additional firepower, with Kyogo and Hyeongyu Oh as the only two recognised strikers in the squad. Although the recent addition of Luis Palma could allow Maeda to transition to a more central role, Celtic had been eyeing other options, including Sydney van Hooijdonk from Bologna.
The 23-year-old Dutch striker has attracted attention from a host of clubs, including several from the Bundesliga and the Premier League, making Celtic’s pursuit highly competitive.
However, any hopes of landing van Hooijdonk have been dashed, as Bologna have now decided to retain the player. The Italian club informed the striker that he would not be allowed to move this summer, despite him spending the off-season pondering his future options. [Sky Sports]
