Chris Sutton has delivered a scathing assessment of Celtic’s summer transfer business and the influence of the October 2024 appointment of Paul Tisdale, branding the club’s recruitment chief “Dr. Do Little” in a blistering attack.
The former Celtic striker has been relentless in his criticism of the board in recent days, repeatedly questioning the club’s strategy, ambition, and structure as supporter unrest continues to grow, with “sack the board” chants becoming a recurring soundtrack at Celtic Park.
Tisdale, appointed as Head of Football Operations last autumn, has been silent publicly, but his influence is starting to be felt and questioned.
Now Sutton has turned his attention to the shadowy nature of recruitment at the club, casting doubt over who is really calling the shots.
Speaking live on Sky Sports, the former Celtic striker vented his frustrations and called out Tisdale. He said:
“Is Brendan Rodgers signing the players? Do we really know that? Who’s signed Inamura? If Brendan signed him and had the final say, why’s he talking about shipping him out and him not being at the level?
“So Paul Tisdale, he’s come in. Dr. Do Little at this moment in time. The only decent players he’s signed are Jota and Tierney, and it’s hardly rocket science to think they’ll come in and fit in at Celtic.
“There are all these issues and then Brendan’s contract situation for next season. If you’re him, and in the biggest game of the season – the Champions League qualifier – you haven’t been allowed to tool up and the club has sold Nicolas Kühn under his nose, are you really going to sign a new contract? I think he’s going to feel let down.”
Sutton’s comments reflect a growing disconnect between the supporters, the boardroom, and the football operations.
With the Champions League qualifier against Kairat looming and transfer frustrations mounting, his words will resonate with many.
It’s going to be a massive final week in the transfer window for Celtic. A left-back is needed, at least a couple of wingers and a striker before the window slams shut.
