Sutton Makes Bold and ‘Suspicious’ Rodgers Claim

CHRIS SUTTON has implied there may have been talks going on before any official move was made for Brendan Rodgers by Leicester and that Celtic allowing him to speak to the club so quickly tells its own story.

It seemingly happened so fast with Rodgers declaring his intent to the board on Monday afternoon with Celtic fans waking up on Tuesday with the news their manager was all but gone.

The speed of the move was stunning and it’s left Celtic supporters in a state of shock.

However, Sutton has tried to make sense of the mess Brendan Rodgers created by wondering when the official courting of the Irishman took place and how everything seemed to fall into place very quickly.

When you think how long negotiations could be protracted, especially for a manager who needs to negotiate a contract he’s happy with along with budgets, coaching staff etc – it was all just too convenient.

Speaking about the move in his column for RecordSport Sutton said:

“Lawwell and the board could have dug their heels in and refused Rodgers permission to speak with Leicester at this time of the season.

“The fact they didn’t really does tell its own story.

“The fact the move to the King Power has come about with such speed would also make you suspicious that Leicester’s plan didn’t just come out of the blue.”
