Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton reflected on the Hoops’ 0-0 draw against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League this evening.
Away from home in Europe, Celtic have historically struggled in recent years, so a point in Zagreb can be seen in two ways: a point gained and a sign the Bhoys are moving in the right direction, or two points dropped given the Croatian champions’ heavy injury list going into the game.
Sutton touched on this post-match with his usual on-the-money analysis of his former side.
Good point and clean sheet. Maybe feel in many ways though it was an opportunity missed. Dominated the ball but lacked a bit of quality in the final third. Shows how far the team have come feeling disappointed with a point maybe… thoughts? ☘️

Back-to-back clean sheets away from home in the Champions League cannot be taken for granted, especially considering the Hoops conceded seven in Dortmund before that.
With Zagreb themselves not in the best run of form recently, it does feel like a missed opportunity. However, this could be an example of the Hoops slightly adjusting their approach away from home in Europe to be less vulnerable to counter-attacks.
Brendan Rodgers’ substitutions in the second half appeared well-judged in an effort to change the game.
With Celtic now on nine points after six games played, it’s a points total that cannot be taken for granted. They now appear just one point away from guaranteeing a place in the playoffs, highlighting how far Celtic have progressed under Rodgers in one year, considering this time last season, the Hoops were struggling with a dip in domestic form.
