Sutton Expresses ‘Surprise’ at Celtic Fans Over Rodgers Decision

CHRIS SUTTON admits he’s ‘surprised’ to hear so many Celtic fans who agreed with Brendan Rodgers apparent decision to prioritise Sunday’s tie with Hearts over the Leipzig game o Thursday.

The Celtic manager chose not to field players who were struggling for fitness and didn’t risk Tom Rogic and Filip Benkovic.

Rodgers decided to give the youngsters some game time with Morgan, Christie and Kouassi getting a runout.

Celtic are set to bring Rogic and Benkovic back in barring any last minute hitches and while Sutton thinks Celtic should be fielding their strongest XI – the fans seem to be more pragmatic.

“A lot of Celtic fans who I met over there [Germany] earlier this week were saying the game on Sunday was the most important, which surprised me as I always thought Celtic should go heavy in all competitions.” Sutton wrote in The Sportsman.

“Rodgers has prioritised Betfred Cup semis over RB Leipzig game and he’ll be rewarded with an extra time win. It will be a close game between Celtic & Hearts and I think it will go to extra time.”

Celtic are looking for some retribution against Hearts on Sunday after suffering defeat at Tynecastle earlier in the season. The bhoys have scored ten goals in their last two domestic games and Rodgers is hopeful they can continue that form in Edinburgh.
