Sutton Comes to Defence of Former Celtic Gaffer

CHRIS SUTTON has come out in defence of his old manager Martin O’Neill as the Irishman takes the brunt of the criticism for Ireland’s current form.

The former treble winning Parkhead boss has only won just one game in the last nine with his country and people are calling his coaching into question.

Before the Wales defeat last night, the accusation which was aimed at O’Neill was the players didn’t seem to know what their role was on the field when they were out there.

Chris Sutton quickly shut down any talk of that being the case and used his own experience as an example.

O’Neill signed Sutton for Celtic back in the early 00s for a record-breaking £6million at the time.

The striker was one of the lynchpins of the O’Neill era at Celtic Park. The Englishman struck up a sensational strike partnership with Celtic Legend Henrik Larsson.

O’Neill is always going to come under scrutiny for the form Ireland are going through. Do Ireland need a new manager with fresh ideas or can the former Celtic boss get back on track?
