The 32-year-old, who has been a free agent since parting ways with Southampton, had been keeping fit with Brentford in recent months. His move to North America comes as a surprising one for a player still capable of competing at a high level in European leagues.
The move concludes Armstrong’s stint in the Premier League where he played a pivotal role in Southampton’s campaign, although the club and player failed to agree on terms following their recent promotion.
Surprising Move for Invincible Celt
You have to admit, it’s quite a surprising move for Armstrong.
He’d obviously been training with Brentford and had been linked to Premier League side Fulham. He’d also been linked with a move to Italian side Fiorentina. So to make the move to the MLS does seem a bit surprising, but maybe he just fancies the change.
Some had questioned whether Brendan Rodgers could reunite with the Scotland international at Celtic, but no official moves were made for the player.
Celtic are stacked in the midfield, with deadline day signings Arne Engels and Luke McCowan making their debuts in the Glasgow Derby win on Sunday.
