‘Strong Political Opposition’ – What Italian Press Are Saying About Celtic Ahead of Lazio Tie

Celtic take on Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday night in what promises to be another big occasion under the lights at Celtic Park.

The bhoys know they will have to put a complete performance in against the Italian’s to get a positive result. As Lazio get set to land in Glasgow we have had a look at what some of the Italian press have been saying and it appears some of them aren’t paying Celtic much attention

Cittacelleste have claimed rumours of Lazio manager Inzaghi making some big changes for the game at Celtic Park. The website did also claim they expect to see Jeremie Frimpong in the starting XI which is impossible considering he isn’t eligible.

‘Lazio is almost ready for Thursday’s match against Celtic. According to rumours, in anticipation of tomorrow’s game, Inzaghi will make some changes against Glasgow’s green-and-white’

Ilnapolista chose to speak about the two sets of fans and how they directly conflict with each other. The publication notes Celtic’s strong anti-racist ideology.

“There are fears of accidents and contact between the ultras of the two clubs. There is no precedent but there is a strong political opposition.

“Since 2006, the warmest supporters of the Celtic supporters are coordinated by the Green Brigades. It is a group with a strong anti-racist ideology. The GB has often shown banners and choirs in favour of the Palestinian cause and of the Irish independentism sanctioned by UEFA.”

Gazzetta hint towards Lazio having bigger games coming up they need to focus on rather than the Celtic tie which could play into the bhoys favour on the night.

“At Lazio there is a strong need to balance the energies between the various fronts. After the commitment in Scotland, two tricky championship games are on the horizon: the trip with Fiorentina (Sunday 27 October) and the home match with Torino (Wednesday 30).”

Celtic also have a tricky trip at Pittodrie on Sunday after Thursday’s game so both clubs are in the same boat in that respect.

Lazio are a technically gifted side who will look to try and impose themselves on the game and press Celtic as much as possible. They shipped three goals at the weekend but they also showed character to come from being three behind to draw on the day.

Celtic must be focused to get a good result.
