After over a decade at Celtic, academy product Daniel Cummings has confirmed his departure from the club following the expiration of his contract.
The 19-year-old striker posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, marking the end of a 13-year journey that began in Celtic’s youth ranks and saw him rise to the cusp of the first team.
“After 13 years at my boyhood club. Today I have officially left Celtic,” Cummings wrote. “I just want to say a massive thank you to all the coaches/staff and everyone associated with the club, It has been a pleasure. Another massive thank you to all the boys, It has been a great journey and I have made memories for life. I wish the club and everyone else the best of luck in the future. Hail Hail 🍀”
Cummings made a solitary senior appearance for Celtic but saw his route to the first team shut down after informing the club he would not be signing a new deal. Once that decision was made, he was effectively frozen out of contention for further involvement under Brendan Rodgers.
His next move is already lining up, with the talented youngster expected to sign for English Premier League side West Ham United. An announcement confirming the move is believed to be imminent.
Despite his limited senior minutes, Cummings was a highly-rated figure within Celtic’s youth setup. His decision to move on is part of a wider pattern of young Scottish talents looking south for clearer development pathways and quicker access to senior football.
Celtic fans will be watching closely to see how Cummings progresses at West Ham, where he’s expected to join their U21 or development squad initially. His departure will no doubt sting given the years of development invested in him at Lennoxtown.
