Striker Confident of Celtic Deal in ‘Next Few Days’

LEIGH GRIFFITHS was honest and open during a BBC Morning show interview on Wednesday when he was asked about his Celtic situation.

The Celtic striker clarified his contract situation and what’s happening next behind the scenes.

Leigh revealed he’s still under contract with the club until the end of the month but has not been at training because no deal has been done yet to keep him on.

The frontman claimed Ange Postecoglou is keen to keep him on but a deal will have to be done. It’s likely Celtic will not honour the terms of the previous deal and will be looking to renegotiate with the striker over a new Hoops deal.

That sort of contract negotiation can see hurt feelings and a parting of the ways if not handled carefully.

Asked why he wasn’t training and when his deal was up, Leigh said:

End of the month I’m supposed to be [Out of contract],but I spoke to the manager last week and he’s keen to keep me on, so we’re looking for a deal that can be done. Hopefully it can be done in the next few days.

It’s clear Leigh had issues with the previous setup surrounding his fitness and their analysis of where he was at during the season.

At 30, Leigh needs to be playing games. Ange Postecoglou is in the building on Thursday and will likely sit down with the frontman to thrash out what happens next.

Celtic will be low on strikers if Eddy does leave this summer and Bayo is sold to Toulouse.

Could Leigh be an impact sub or should he be looking elsewhere if the manager doesn’t see him in the first team starting XI on a regular basis?
