‘Stone’s Throw Away’ – Celtic Set to Seal Long-awaited Signing

Belgian outlet Voetbal Primeur now says Celtic are very close to signing Royal Antwerp winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

The report claims the deal is only a “stone’s throw” away from completion, with both clubs finally reaching agreement on a fee after protracted negotiations.

Celtic had previously struggled to make progress in talks, with Antwerp’s original asking price of around £5.1 million proving a stumbling block.

A fee of £4.5 million has been agreed between the two clubs, paving the way for the transfer to move forward. This shift appears to have come after Antwerp softened their stance, aware that Balikwisha is entering the final year of his contract.

Talks had slowed earlier in the summer due to concerns around the winger’s recent injury issues, but those no longer appear to be a major concern. With the clubs now aligned on the fee, the focus turns to personal terms and finalising the agreement.

Voetbal Primeur notes that the deal is “pushing through,” with the transfer now heading into its final stages. Balikwisha is said to be open to the move and keen on joining Celtic, who are looking to add depth and dynamism to their attacking options ahead of a demanding domestic and European campaign.

The Belgian winger’s versatility and pace make him an attractive addition for Brendan Rodgers, particularly with Celtic still active in the transfer market and looking to strengthen out wide. His ability to play across the front three suits the manager’s preferred system and offers competition in key areas.

While interest in Balikwisha from clubs in France has been mentioned in other reports, Voetbal Primeur insist that Celtic remain firmly in pole position. The player’s openness to the move and the progress made in club-to-club talks have left the Hoops optimistic about completing the signing before the window closes.

With a fee now agreed and just over a week remaining in the window, Celtic will be aiming to move quickly to wrap up the deal. The next step is to finalise terms with the player, and all signs suggest that a breakthrough is close.
