Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd was critical of where the Ibrox side sit at this stage of the season, despite a 3-0 victory over Celtic this afternoon in the Glasgow Derby.
With Rangers still far behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table and having already lost to the Hoops on penalties in the Premier Sports Cup in December, Boyd was quick to point to the hard work from Celtic over the season up until this point.
He said: (Sky Sports),” Rangers can enjoy the performance today. They can enjoy the result, but the reality is that you are still 11 points behind in the league. That is it.
“Celtic have done their work over a period of time and they are more consistent. Rangers need to get that level of consistency in their play.
“They showed it in the Scottish Cup final that they can compete with Celtic in a one-off game. They then moved that onto the League Cup final where they had large spells, but Celtic have found a way to win more games.
“Rangers have played well today. Won the game. 3-0. Should have been a lot more.”
It’s surprisingly level-headed and fair analysis from Boyd on Celtic and Rangers, something that you would not expect from the former Rangers striker, who is well known for his Ibrox cheerleader antics in the media.
For everything that was wrong with Celtic this afternoon, they have been sensational over the last year.
With the Hoops likely to be busy in the January transfer window, it could be exactly what is needed to spur Celtic on to European and domestic success this season.
Meanwhile, the 3-0 win means that Philippe Clement will be kept in his job, despite a number of Rangers supporters being desperate to see him sacked.
If they had lost this afternoon, it means that Rangers have a manager in place midway through the season, that many fans have already given up on.
With Rangers 11 points behind Celtic and having already lost the Premier Sports Cup final, the pressure on Clement remains high, with Brendan Rodgers certainly set to learn from today.
