Saturday Night Celtic Rumour Wide of the Mark

There were reports on Sunday morning [SunSport] that Celtic were making a move to appoint a Director of Football after former Liverpool and Spurs scout Steve Hitchen was spotted at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

However, CeltsAreHere can confirm Hitchen is NOT being lined up by the club or Ange Postecoglou and those reports are well wide of the mark.

Celtic appointed Mark Lawwell to a similar role in the summer. As we understand it, Ange and Mark are working together alongside Michael Nicholson when it comes to scouting and potential players coming through the door.

Ange has not asked for anybody else to come in on the scouting side of things at present.

Steve’s presence at Celtic Park saw a rumour grow arms and legs pretty quickly, not uncommon in Scottish football. But the scout, who is currently out of work, will not be part of the Celtic setup.

Celtic’s recruitment under Ange Postecoglou has been much more hit than miss. The Celtic manager is being allowed a big say in things – more than other managers in the past.

The Celtic boss watched his side win 6-1 against Hibernian with big players like Jota and Callum McGregor currently out injured. It spotlights the squad depth the boss is trying to build. Guys like Aaron Mooy, Haksabanovic and Bernabei all stepping up will be pleasing for Ange.

January feels a long time away but the transfer preparations are well underway when it comes to potential incomings. As always, Celtic need to remain nimble in the market knowing full well some of their players are wanted by clubs down south.
