As the January transfer window approaches, three Celtic players – Stephen Welsh, Luis Palma, and Maik Nawrocki – are contemplating their futures at the club.

With the Hoops currently dominating domestically and competing in Europe, the need for consistent game time is driving these players to weigh up their options.
Stephen Welsh, once seen as a reliable backup defensive option, now finds himself on the fringes of Brendan Rodgers’ squad. The 24-year-old centre-back has made just one start this season – a 5-2 victory over Falkirk in the Premier Sports Cup – and his lack of opportunities is becoming a growing concern.
Welsh has previously attracted interest from clubs in Italy, France, and England, but Celtic opted to retain him due to his status as a homegrown player for European squad registration.
Although under contract until 2027, Welsh is eager for regular game time and plans to discuss his long-term prospects with Rodgers, MailSport reports.
Luis Palma’s Celtic career has stalled dramatically. After showing early promise with some eye-catching performances and goals, the Honduran winger has found himself frozen out of Rodgers’ plans.
Reports suggest Palma is attracting interest from MLS clubs and teams in Europe, where his profile remains high due to his involvement with the Honduran national team. Despite his talent, inconsistency and a failure to adapt to Rodgers’ system have hindered his progress.
Maik Nawrocki, who joined Celtic in the summer for a reported fee of £4.3 million, has struggled with injuries and competition for places. The Polish centre-back was seen as a key signing to bolster the defence, but the strong performances of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty, and Liam Scales have limited his chances.
